Federation of Drums and Percussion

Eccentricity is not, as dull people would have us believe, a form of madness. It is often a kind of innocent pride, and the man of genius and the aristocrat are frequently regarded as eccentrics because genius and aristocrat are entirely unafraid of and uninfluenced by the opinions and vagaries of the crowd.

What Kind of Kit

My main kit is '89 Tama Superstar Cherry wine
13" 16 " and 18" toms, 22X18" bass drums
Paiste crashes and Zlidjian ride, Sabian 13" hihats
double pedal, (sound men never have two bass drum mics
anymore)and dollar store plastic baseball bats.
My current rack tom is made of two 13"" toms fastened
together for a better Nuclear waste drum effect.
My kit is set up symetrically, so what ever sound I want
is equally accessible on the right or left. ( I am noticing
more drummers lately putting floor toms and spare snares on
the left, it keeps the left hand busier.)

The riser is custom built by myself. Threaded pipes and flanges from the
hardware store, and Gibralter drum rack pipes, or conduit. The main 'H'
frame was purchased from the drummer that was on the first White Zombie
record, just before he left to do that tour. The bass drum(s) are cradled by supports that are part of the riser.
( Basically I cut out the wood that did not need to hold anything.)
Sticks are 5b nylons, Whatever is on sale because the lighter
wood wears down, and once a month I break 5 sticks in one show,
( LOOK AT ME I'M A MADMAN!)

Myspace

I guess I am here on myspace to show that you don't have to have big bucks
to customize your kit. Though my wraps didn't really catch on, I still use
the idea, and the cymbal mounts can be formed into what ever shape you
want. The riser came about from playing in rooms that did not have a stage.
Half my kit came from the hardware store!

Type of Experience

I started drumming in 1980, playing AC/DC and moving up to Rush by 83.
After high school, there were a few hard rock bands.
In 1985 My drum teacher set me up with a friend of his
that was looking for a drummer for a local MN circus, that
turned into a tour of the western half of U.S !
(think about cartoon sound effects, and just throw them in as the act goes on)
I came back to the Twin Cities to play in 80's rock bands, and a couple of country bands.
Formed To The Core for a friend's birthday party and the band is 4 1/2 yrs old now.
I sing lead and backups all night. My song "Underground" is on our CD Reliability Test Lab. www.tothecorerocks.com

Future Plans

Just to keep playing. When To The Core is done, maybe
something a little funky and groovy. I have been lucky to find good players
North of Minneapolis, and I am glad I am worthy of their stage.
I am starting with teaching very soon,I have 3 students ready to go in the next week or so.
